Niji Ryu Tournament &
New Budokai Kenjutsu Syllabus
by Dr. Ivica Zdravkovic
5th DAN Jujutsu, 3rd DAN Kenjutsu

Second Niji Ryu Aiki Jujutsu Tournament was held in Perlez (Vojvodina, Northern Serbia) on May 25th this year. This whole day event covered many interesting things: karate kata competition, budo demonstrations, Niji Ryu Kumite competition and the First Serbian Jujutsu Kata Tournament. Excellent host and organizer of this event was Miroslav Miojevic sensei, founder of Niji Ryu and head of Niji Ryu association. Of course, Sensei Miroslav is an associated member of SBC.
There were more than 70 participants in this event, with many spectators in the gym. Aside from SBC Honbu Dojo instructors, this tournament was attended by several other guests, including Bogdan Kesic sensei (56), one of Serbian karate pioneers, ranked 5th DAN karate shotokan.

Participants of this tournament

Karate kata competition was short and it gathered only the youngest students. Kata performed was Heian Nidan. Please, visit the site of Niji Ryu for additional info.
Niji Ryu Kumite was very interesting, with rules similar to the rules of Ju-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF) - combined karate and judo rules. Organizer of this event provided diplomas and medals for all categories and it was additional stimulus for all fighters.
One of the most interesting parts of the event was the First Serbian jujutsu Kata tournament. There were 5 pairs fighting for medals: one from Jujutsu Club "Pozarevac" and four from Niji Ryu association. Contest was conducted under slightly modified rules of JJIF. Some of the most attractive and impressive actions were demonstrated.
Guests from Honbu Dojo of SBC made a small demonstration after their arrival. Our two jujutsu nidan instructors, Slobodan Saric and Slobodan Drakulic gave a great performance of judo randori no kata. I performed several kenjutsu (iai) kata, and some of kenjutsu basic techniques and combinations. Here ara several photos of that demonstration.
